Mastering the At-Home Blow Out

Northbridge hairdresser

Even though we’d all love to have our favorite Northbridge hairdresser available at the snap of our fingers, life doesn’t work that way.  As one of the most common salon hairstyles, mastering the blow out can prove to be quite resourceful when you’re stuck at home without your stylist!

However, we understand that mastering the technique can be tricky.  With time, patience, and these helpful tips, we promise that you’ll be a blow out master before you know it!

Start With Protectant

This step is crucial! Professional protectant affects the health of your hair, which directly relates to how shiny and bouncy it is! Damaged hair looks damaged. So keep your hair healthy with a good quality protectant that shields your hair from heat damage.  If you’re not sure which product is best for your hair type, ask your stylist!

Rough Dry

Now that you’re protected, it’s time to rough dry your hair thoroughly. Don’t take the time to separate your hair yet, simply run your fingers through your locks to get most of the moisture out. Your hair should be 90 to 95% dry before you begin the styling process.

Section It Out

Ok, here’s where the fun begins! However, how you section your hair depends on the hair length and thickness. For shorter, thinner hair, you can pin up the top.  For thicker, longer hair, you’ll want to create divisions throughout.  Separate your hair into manageable portions of equal sizes with hair clips.

Technique

We’ll admit it, getting the proper technique is the toughest part. Starting at the back of your head, wrap your hair around your brush as tightly as you can (without getting it tangled and stuck). Blow drying in a downward motion, run your diffuser along your brush as you brush down. The diffuser should always be pointed down.

Do this, and you’ll have a perfectly frizz-free, sleek style! But remember, Rome wasn’t built in a day … patience is key!

Volumize

Everyone dreams of shiny, full, bouncy hair.  However, most of us aren’t blessed with that natural cover girl look.  Pulling your hair upwards as you blow-dry, can help create the volume you’re looking for! Let gravity work for you, not against you!!

The Finishing Touches

To finish, use the cool setting to set your style and add in any additional products you want to use. Hairspray, texturizer, or shine spray are all ways to complete your desired look.
