Three Things to Expect When You Try Hatha Yoga

yoga near me

Hatha yoga is among one of the most popular categories of yoga, and for a good reason. It has numerous health benefits, like improving flexibility and strength, lowering depression and stress levels, and more. It’s also one of the oldest forms of yoga, dating back over 2000 years ago, starting in South Asia. This practice welcomes many as it’s more gentle on the body and emphasizes stationary poses.

If you’ve been searching for “yoga near me,” you’ve found the right place. Studio East is excited to offer a variety of yoga classes, Hatha being one of them!

Here are a few things you can expect when you take our yoga class.

Breathwork

Breathwork is one of the most essential parts of any type of yoga. Learning how to breathe in sync with your body helps create a flow of movements with your poses. If you have irregular breathing patterns, it’s difficult for your mind to be at ease while maintaining a flow of movement.

Classes start by focusing on the breath, so you can expect to practice different types of breathing exercises. You’ll learn to do these types of breathwork as you go through different poses and movements. With practice over time, you’ll be able to do this with ease!

Movement

After you learn how to do different versions of breathwork, you’ll start to practice different poses. In Hatha, poses and movements can range from beginner level to advanced. The great thing about yoga is that any pose can be modified to work with what your body is capable of!

It’s important not to feel discouraged if you’re having trouble getting into a pose. Everyone goes at their own pace. Gaining the flexibility and strength to do some poses takes time; you shouldn’t feel rushed, nor are we rushing you! Our instructors are here to accept you as you are and guide you through the process of different poses throughout the session.

Meditation

The session ends with meditation. You’ll likely find yourself in a Savasana pose. This is a restorative and relaxation pose where you lay on your back with your eyes closed. Your arms should be relaxed by your side and your legs straight, with your feet falling to a natural position.

This is a time to reflect on the connection between your body, mind, and soul. Depending on the instructor, sometimes meditation includes a singing bowl, gong bowl, or some form of gentle music.
